We're finally starting to feel a bit more awake after a loong weekend of no sleep after staying up to watch the fight of the century: McGregor VS. Mayweather.
Sure, he didn't win, but it was well worth a watch.
Unless that is, you're one of the many people who weren't bothered to pay the $100 pay-per-view fee in the US, or the €25 to see the match on Sky Sports Box Office in Ireland - then we're not so sure it was worth it.
Irdeto, a digital platform security company, has said it was able to identify 239 illegal streams of the fight on Saturday, which were watched by 2,930,598 people through Facebook and Twitter links as well as well-known pirating sites.
And according to Torrentfreak, a traceable code was on some of those streams.
They said:
According to our sources, these codes didn’t appear when the main action was taking place but when the camera turned to people in each corner.
Since no digits appeared over the top of the fight itself, it might suggest that they were put there by a broadcaster, in this instance Sky Box Office, who were licensed to show the fight in the UK.
With fines for live-streaming unlicensed events possibly amounting to up to $60,000, or five years in prison, we bet people are wishing they shelled out for the PPV link at home instead...
