Hurrah – Unemployment In Ireland Has Fallen To Nine Year Low

Ireland's headline rate of unemployment has fallen to a new post-recession low of just 6.3%,  according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The Irish Times reports that the number of workers who were unemployed dropped to 139,400, for an annual decrease of 42,100.

Unemployment peaked at 15.2% in 2012 at the height of the crash, with Ireland's current unemployment rate lower than the Euro average of 9.3%.

Current trends expect the rate to fall further to below 6% in the new few months.

The CSO numbers show the unemployment rate for men was 7.1% in June, down from 9.4% last year, while the unemployment rate for women was 5.4%, down from 5.5% a year ago.
