Here’s Why You Should Keep Your Laptop’s Webcam Covered When You’re Not Using It

Have you ever noticed how some people cover their laptop's webcam with a sticker or little piece of tape? 

It's so easy to do - and according to FBI director James Comey, it's completely worth it. 

"You go into any government office and we all have the little camera things that sit on top of the screen. They all have a little lid that closes down on them," he said in a statement. 

"You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing."

According to The Mirror, the biggest mistake most people make is not changing their device's default password. 

Hackers can then easily gain access to your webcam and microphone, turning them on and recording you. 

Smartphones, tablets, speakers, home security systems and smart TVs can also be hijacked - so it's worth taking the time to set up your own password and obscure the cameras.
