Here’s Where You Can View The Solar Eclipse In Ireland Next Week

While Ireland won't be getting as much of a sun spectacular as America will be, people will still be able to witness a partial solar eclipse in certain spots around the country next Monday the 21st.

Monday will see the first total solar eclipse to cross the United States from east to west in 99 years, and will cause total darkness for a length of two minutes.

Ireland won't get the full experience, but viewers can still enjoy a tamer eclipse from 7.30pm on Monday evening.

“From our viewpoint, the Moon will move over the lower left edge of the Sun, covering about 5 per cent of it, before completely moving off it again; it will take about 45 minutes from start to finish,” said Dr Ray Butler of NUI Galway Centre for Astronomy told The Irish Times.

Those on the west of Ireland will have the best viewing experience, and NASA have released an interactive map which shows what exact time your area will be in semi-darkness.

Astronomy Ireland is also hosting viewing events at Rosemount Business Park in Dublin and Kingsmeadow, Old Cork Road, Waterford from 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Monday.
