More than one third of college students in Ireland are experiencing "severe financial problems", according to a new survey on the living conditions of students by Eurostudent.
Roughly 36% of higher-level education students say they are seriously struggling with finances, with older students faring the worst.
The average monthly income (of which 42% is contributed by either a parent or partner) for all third-level students is €754 despite the average student spending €832 a month.
Not surprisingly, accommodation takes up a large chunk of this expenditure with an average of €365 per month going toward rent.
Post-grad and full-time students are now more likely to have financial support from their parents than they were five years ago and are less likely to have part time jobs.
