Supermarkets in Ireland have revealed their dedicated shopping hours for elderly and vulnerable people as Ireland enters Phase 2 of the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Here are the times shoppers are being asked to avoid to allow elderly persons and cocooners to do their shopping.
Tesco
Tesco's website states: "We know it can be hard for older people and carers to get what they need at busy times. Therefore, in consultation with Age Action Ireland and Family Carers Ireland, we’ve introduced dedicated shopping times for these groups, up to 9am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays."
They add: "In support of healthcare workers and emergency services personnel, we have also introduced dedicated shopping hours in all stores for these groups. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, the first hours of trading - up until 9am - will be set aside for healthcare workers, meaning they will be the only customers in stores during this time."
Dunnes
Meanwhile,
Dunnes Stores has dedicated 11am to 1pm every day to elderly shoppers. They are asking customers with children to avoid shopping during these hours.
Lidl
"From 9-11am, we are implementing priority shopping hours for the elderly across all 163
Lidl stores in Ireland. This will include prioritised queuing and additional assistance for our older customers.
"We ask that the public respect this time period to allow more vulnerable customers to pick up the food and supplies they need."
Aldi
Priority shopping hours for the elderly customers and those most vulnerable are between 11am and 1pm daily. All other shoppers encouraged to refrain from visiting stores during these times.
SuperValu
SuperValu state that their dedicated elderly hours depend on the store. Their website states:
"Our stores are prioritising the elderly all day long and our staff are committed to ensuring these people are looked after when they visit. This is very much part of how we operate on a daily basis in the community. Many of our stores have a tailored approach in place according to the specific needs of the local community they serve in, including dedicated elderly hours and checkouts."
