Heads Up — 250 Irish Vehicles Are Being Recalled Over Airbag Concerns

Car manufacturers Audi, BMW and Volkswagen are recalling a variety of models in Ireland over airbag concerns.

• Audi is recalling 32 vehicles from certain models of the A1, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5 and Q7 manufactured between 18/07/2016 and 14/10/2016.
• Volkswagen is also carrying out a voluntary recall of 57 affected models of the Golf, e-Golf, Golf Variant, Passat, Scirocco, Sportsvan, Tiguan, Touran, Up, e-Up, Amarok, Transporter manufactured between 29/07/2016 and 03/11/2016.

Both are being recalled in Ireland due to airbag and belt tensioner igniters being manufactured without strict adherence to the prescribed tolerances as the result of a change in the production process. 

What this essentially means is that the airbag or seat belt may not work correctly in the case of an accident in affected vehicles.

• BMW is also recalling 161 certain models of the X1 (Model F48) produced between June 2016 to March 2017 due to a fault in a supplier's production process.
