And it doesn't look like Hurricane Gaston will be the exception.
This particular nuisance was formed off the coast of Florida and is making its way across the Atlantic towards ourselves and the UK.
Just great.
According to the National Hurricane Centre, Hurricane Gastone has surged to a Category Three storm – scary. And it has become the first major hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane season.
So pack your hurricane-proof tents and wellies, you might desperately need them.
