Great news for anyone travelling home for Christmas - Ryanair pilots have suspended their upcoming strike.

Industrial action had been due to take place on Wednesday, affecting flights to and from Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

The announcement about the strike was made last night by the Impact trade union, which said it had called it off because Ryanair had agreed to recognise it as the representative of its Irish-based pilots.

Ryanair will now meet with pilot reps tomorrow evening as opposed to Wednesday.

A statement from Ryanair said: "The union acknowledged the principled determination of Ryanair pilots which it said had made this breakthrough possible and said it looked forward to establishing a positive relationship with Ryanair company management."
