Gardai Warn That Cars May Not Be Insured When Stolen If You Have This Common Habit

Gardaí are warning drivers to avoid leaving their car running while defrosting it in the morning time, as a number of cars have been stolen because of this.

It is common practice to turn the car on, before getting in, to help defrost the windows and warm up the car.

However, An Garda Síochána tweeted today warning drivers to avoid doing so.

They said that as well as increasing the risk of the car being stolen, insurance may not cover you in this situation.

The tweet read: "Gardaí are advising car owners not to leave their engines running as they de-ice their vehicles & leave the vehicle unattended."
