Gardai have issued a warning to drivers to exercise "extreme caution" today after an increase in collisions on roads across the country.
Superintendent for Roads Policing Finbarr Murphy told The Journal: "Leave huge distances between yourselves and the car in front.
"Don’t take photos of scenery as you’re driving, as we saw on the motorway this morning. You need essentially 100% concentration as you’re driving in this weather."
He advised drivers to clear all snow off roofs, windscreens, lights and mirrors - unlike this car stopped by Gardai earlier today.
Gardaí from Pearse St stopped car coming towards patrol car. Unable to see headlights, indicators windows and mirrors covered in snow. Snow on roof could potentially fall down when breaking, blocking vision. Cautioned and Gardaí assisted the driver in clearing the car of snow. pic.twitter.com/W8nwCF39wo
