Gardaí Investigating Blasphemy Complaint Against Stephen Fry

British comedian and TV presenter Stephen Fry caused a bit of a stir in February 2015 when a chat with Gay Byrne revealed his feelings towards God. The comments have now been dragged up again as a formal complaint has been made to Gardaí under the Defamation Act 2009. On the RTÉ programme, The Meaning Of Life, Fry discussed what he would say to God if he ever met him. Among other things, he said:

"How dare you create a world in which there is such misery? It’s not our fault? It’s not right. It’s utterly, utterly evil. Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid god who creates a world which is so full of injustice and pain?"

According to the Irish Independent, a complaint was made at the time and Gardaí are now following up with a full investigation. If convicted, Fry could be ordered to pay a fine of €25,000. READ NEXT: Investigation Launched After Man Found Dead On Irish Fishing Vessel
