Anyone who’s worried about having a
Game of Thrones-shaped hole in their lives after this Sunday’s finale will be delighted to hear that filming on one of its prequels is reportedly already underway.
The new series, tentatively titled
Bloodmoon, is said to have begun filming in Belfast over the last couple of weeks.
Set 5,000 years before the events of the current
GoT series, it focuses on the Children of the Forest, the original inhabitants of Westeros.
Most of the finer details are still under wraps, though it was revealed that
Bloodmoon would document the ‘horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers’.
The official synopsis reads, 'Taking place thousands of years before the events of
Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
'And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend … it's not the story we think we know.'
Naomi Watts is set to star in the series as a 'charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret', while Jane Goldman has been working on the script with George R.R. Martin, according to
Variety.
A source told
The Sun, "Thrones fans will be delighted to hear things have started with the prequel. Those working on the set in Belfast are referring to the series as
Bloodmoon.
“Producers have put together a stellar cast and it will be must-watch telly for anyone who loves
Game Of Thrones.”
