Fungie Has Been Named In The Guinness World Records

The bottle-nosed Dolphin has made the Guinness World Records as the longest recorded solitary dolphin. He is meant to be at least 40 years old and was first seen off the coast of Dingle in 1983. Ever since, Fungie has become famous on our little island and a massive tourist attraction. These types of dolphins can live between 30-50 years old so we may see Fungie hold onto that record for quite some time yet. The record was announced on 18 September by the Guinness World Records after a 2019 report reviewing the world’s documented lone whales and dolphins published by global charity Marine Connection. The report showed that bottlenose dolphins are the most frequently observed solitary species.
