Snow, ice, and very low temperatures are behind the latest series of weather warnings.
We reported earlier today that Met Éireann was forecasting freezing fog, severe frost, and temperatures dropping to as low as -5 degrees over the next few days, before
the weather takes a turn for the windier and rainier later into next week.
It is that initial drop in temperature tonight that has caused the national meteorological services both here and in the UK to issue a series of weather warnings that encompass the entire island of Ireland, some of which will remain in place until Monday morning.

Met Eireann: Status Yellow - Snow/Ice warning for Ireland
"Scattered falls of sleet, snow and hail continuing for the rest of today. Icy and hazardous conditions."
Warning active until 7pm this evening (Sunday, January 24).
Met Eireann: Status Yellow - Low Temperature/Ice warning for Ireland
"Icy and very cold with lowest temperatures of -5 to -2 degrees Celsius generally, colder locally."
Warning active from 7pm this evening until 10am on Monday morning.
Met UK: Yellow - Snow and Ice Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry
"Icy stretches and an area of sleet and snow bringing some travel disruption Sunday."
Warning active until 3pm today.
Met UK: Yellow - Ice Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry
"Icy stretches will likely cause some travel disruption."
Warning active from 6pm this evening until 11am on Monday morning.
