Experts are warning the people of Ireland to follow "infection-control practices" ahead of this week's "Arctic Blast" weather.
The public have been told that washing their hands properly is more important than putting on a second pair of socks and that the cold weather is going to see the flu, that's currently gripped the nation, reach a new level.
The warning comes as the country braces itself for wintry showers as a snow-ice and wind weather warning and weather advisory was issued.
The Irish Independent is reporting that Professor Sam McConkey, consultant in infectious diseases at Beaumont Hospital, and Professor Joe Keane, a respiratory consultant in St James's Hospital have given the nation a countrywide flu warning.
"Washing of hands is more important than putting on a second pair of socks. People need to wash their hands properly and dispose of tissues correctly.
The 'Arctic Blast' weather forecast can be extremely damaging and people are being told to keep an eye out to see how it evolves over the next couple of days.
When the 'Arctic Blast' hit the UK at the start of 2018, flu-related deaths doubled instantly within the first week.
