Farmer Celebrates After 24 Stolen Sheep Find Their Own Way Home Back To Kerry

A farmer in Kerry had some great news over the weekend as 24 of his sheep, who had recently been stolen, made their own way home to him in the mountains near Killarney.

The Farmers Journal reports that 26 of Dermot Donovan’s Scotch and Texel-cross hoggets went missing on Wednesday, and he says that he was able to track the footprints of the man he believes stole them.

“They were driven out through bare bog and you can see their tracks, and the footprints of the man driving them and his dog too,” Dermot told Farmers Journal.

“He drove them out the top of Mangerton mountain, it’s 2,700ft high, and turned them to the right. He must have driven them on a long ways after that because it took them four days to get back."

The sheep arrived home unharmed, and while two are still missing Dermot is confident they will soon return home.

He has taken his evidence to the Gardai and hopes the thief will be caught.

“It took a lot of effort and blackguarding to take those sheep. The people that did this know what they are doing, they know the mountain" he said.

"Anyone who touches anyone else’s sheep, it is out of all order.”
