Donald Trump has said he still plans on visiting Ireland soon, after cancelling a visit that was planned for last November.
Leo Varadkar is currently in Washington D.C. as part of his annual St Patrick’s Day meeting with the president and will also be visiting Chicago during his stay.
The Taoiseach also met Vice President Mike Pence and his sister Anne at the White House before meeting with Trump.
Ahead of their meeting, Trump told reporters at the Oval Office, “I’ll be coming [to Ireland] at some point during the year.
“I missed it last time, but I would have loved to have been there. It's a special place.”

Varadkar’s partner Matt Barrett was also present for the meeting with notoriously anti-LGBT rights Mike Pence at the Oval Office.
Speaking at the Vice President's residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, Varadkar said American politics “helped to inspire me to believe in the power of politics to do good because ultimately that is what politics is all about”.
He added, “I stand here, leader of my country, flawed and human, but judged by my political actions and not by my sexual orientation, my skin tone, gender or religious beliefs.”
