Derry City Release Heartbreaking Statement On The Death Of Their Captain

Derry City captain Ryan McBride tragically lost his life yesterday at the tender age of 27. Since then, the football community in Ireland has come together to grieve the loss of a friend, teammate and rival.

The club has been through a lot in recent years as they also lost club legend Mark Farren to cancer last year at the age of 33. 

On top of that, midfielder Josh Daniels lost five members of his family in the Buncrana Pier tragedy of 2016, the first anniversary of which falls today.

The Candystripes have today released a statement reflecting their heartbreak at the sudden loss of Ryan.

The defender's inspiration and leadership was highlighted in what is a heartbreaking read.
