Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn has offered hope in Ireland's battle to suppress to latest wave of coronavirus by saying "we've passed the worst of the pandemic this year."
829 new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Monday evening, along with 55 deaths, and NPHET have said that they are seeing "steady progress" against the disease. At yesterday's press briefing, Dr. Glynn said that "we have already passed what is the worst of this disease this year and that we will not have to go back through what we went through in January again."
He added that "I would hope that we will move in a steadily, more positive frame over the coming months. But that is contingent on us keeping this disease actively suppressed once we get disease numbers down. If they go back up, we’ve seen what will happen."
Ireland remains under Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions, with the current set of measures set to expire on March 5.
