In a move that has not gone unnoticed, the Department of Health has deleted a tweet from Tuesday morning in which a spokesperson warned the public to be wary of misinformation regarding coronavirus.
Rumours appeared on social media which suggested that a music band in Co. Dublin had been urged to self-isolate.
A letter, which was widely shared on social media, claimed that members of a youth band ought self-isolate as a member of the group who'd attended practice last week had tested positive for Covid-19.
In a tweet on Tuesday morning, the Department of Health assured followers that there remained just one confirmed case of coronavirus in the country.
The tweet read: "We are aware of fake letters circulating regarding confirmed case of
#Covid19. There is one confirmed case of covid-19 in Ireland.
"If further confirmed cases arise, Dept. of Health will notify the public. Please be wary of misinformation."
Interestingly, however, that tweet has since been deleted.
RTE are now reporting that the Health Service Executive has indeed written to a small music group and asked them to self-isolate until March 15 as a precaution.
According to the report, the practice session was attended by the patient, who remains the only confirmed case in the Republic of Ireland.
