Daniel O'Donnell has urged his fans not to fall for an online hoax which asks for donations to help fight the outbreak of Covid-19.
A fake account purporting to be Daniel O'Donnell has been set up targeting his fans and the Donegal singer has now stepped in to put a stop to the hoax.
Speaking about the scam, O'Donnell said "This is horrendous to see at this difficult time for everyone. I am absolutely appalled that criminals would take advantage of the good people of Ireland and my international fans to set up this fake account to make money. I urge my fans to spread the news that this is a fake account and under no circumstance should they donate to these fraudsters."
Daniel has asked fans to spread the word that the account is fake and that he 'doesn't communicate directly with fans on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or any other social media website or forum.'
However, he has put a notice on his
website and his Facebook page to warn fans of the situation...
The fake account has been reported to the Gardai and 'anyone who has donated is urged to inform the gardaí or their local law enforcement authority immediately.'
