Dáil Hearing On Tuam Babies Delayed Due To Low Turnout

A Dáil hearing into the Tuam Babies scandal was delayed this morning due to a lack of TDs. The discovery of the remains of almost 800 children and babies in the Galway town has dominated the headlines this week, but only a a small number of Ireland's elected representatives were present for a debate on the issue. A minimum of 20 TDs have to be present to begin a session in the Dáil so the hearing had to be delayed for 10 minutes while additional politicians could be found. According to Today FM journalist Gavan Reilly, the meeting began once the minimum number was reached but many left the room once the debate began.

Once the quorum was made, the daily prayer given and Zappone's opening statement began, the crowd quickly filtered back down to 12.
