The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) is meeting today to discuss whether recommendations should be made to increase the Covid-19 risk level in a number of counties.
After last week's recommendation to place Dublin into level 3 was acted upon by the Government, NPHET is now closely watching the situation in Cork, Waterford, Wicklow, Kildare, Donegal, Offaly and Louth. The increasing number of Covid-19 cases is now seen as a nationwide problem, with the reproductive rate of the virus currently standing between 1.5 and 1.7. Professor Philip Nolan, chair of NPHET’s epidemiological modelling advisory group, has said that the goal is to get it back to below zero.
234 new cases of Covid-19 were reported across the country on Wednesday evening, with 103 of these coming from Dublin. The next highest were 30 in Donegal, 22 Galway, and 21 in Cork.
Dublin is currently scheduled to remain at risk level 3 of the Living with Covid plan until October 9, while the rest of the country is currently at level 2. More information on the various levels can be found
