When Kerry GAA legend Colm 'The Gooch' Cooper announced his retirement from inter-county football last week tributes rightly poured in.
A much-respected figure in GAA circles, it was to be expected that someone of Cooper's ilk announcing he is leaving his time in the green and gold behind would attract such praise.
However, it appears one man feels that the eulogising was a bit over the top. It will come as no surprise to regular viewers of
The Sunday Game that the man in question is Joe Brolly.
Speaking on RTE's
League Sunday following Kerry's impressive win over Dublin yesterday, the contentious pundit said:
“I’m sure Colm must be cringing himself. It was like the death of Lady Diana. I thought he had died with all the sort of eulogising that was going on. Even today on the big screen in Croke Park we did it again."
We suppose that's one way of looking at it, Joe. As impressive a person as Diana was, we're not sure how she would have cut it on All-Ireland Sunday at Croke Park.
You can check out the full heated exchange below and it's worth a look for Cooper's former team-mate Tomás Ó Sé's exasperated reaction and Ciaran Whelan not-so-kindly asking Brolly to shut up.
