The Government has confirmed that Ireland will enter Level 5 of Covid-19 restrictions, with some adjustments, from this Wednesday, October 21.

Following a day of speculation, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin addressed the nation just after 9pm to confirm that Ireland will be entering Level 5 of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19, with some adjustments. The restrictions are scheduled to last for six weeks (until Wednesday, December 2) but will be reviewed after four weeks. The starting point for the new Level 5 restrictions is midnight on Wednesday, October 21.

Here are the main points you need to know about Ireland's new Level 5 restrictions...

Schools

Schools and crèches will remain open during this time.

Sports

All elite sport can continue (including the GAA Championships). Some training for children can continue.

Travel

People will only be allowed to move within 5km of their homes for exercise.

Social visits

Support bubbles for people living alone or parenting alone  - people can pair with one other household. Other than that, no social gatherings in homes or gardens. People can meet up outdoors with one other household away from their home.

Retail

Essential retail only. A click and collect system will be implemented for some stores.

Weddings

Up to 25 guests will be allowed.

Hairdressers/Barbers

Closed.

Beauty Salons

Closed.

Pubs/restaurants

Takeaway services only.

Gyms
