An Amazing Coincidence Emerged From Ireland’s Victory Over Australia Today

Ireland's magical rugby year got even better today as Joe Schmidt's men emerged victorious against Australia in Melbourne by a score of 26-21.

Tries from Andrew Conway and Tadhg Furlong and four penalties from Johnny Sexton secured the win which was Ireland's first test victory over Australia on Aussie soil in 39 years. It sets up a tour-deciding showdown in Sydney next weekend with the sides now level at one win apiece.

Amazingly, the last time Ireland achieved a win of their Australian hosts on their own patch was on this very date, June 16, in 1979. It's clearly a lucky date for the Boys In Green and the keeps the momentum going after a spring which saw them claim the Grand Slam and Leinster take home the Champions Cup.

Roll on the World Cup in Japan next year.
