Chocolate Can Cure A Cough Better Than Cough Medicine, According To Experts

Great news for anyone suffering from an annoying cough at the moment (that’s basically everyone, then) because a leading expert has said chocolate could be the best cure for it.

Even better than your go-to cough medicine, in fact.

Professor Alyn Morice, head of cardiovascular and respiratory studies at the University of Hull, has done extensive research on the subject and came to the conclusion that “chocolate can calm coughs".

Okay, we admit it does sound a bit too good to be true but Professor Morice even told Mail Online, “As an independent clinician who has spent years researching the mechanism of cough, I can assure you the evidence is actually as solid a bar of Fruit and Nut.”

He added, “This proves that a new medicine which contains cocoa is better than a standard linctus.

“The head-to-head comparison found that patients taking the chocolate-based medicine had a significant improvement in symptoms within two days.”

If that doesn’t convince you, this actually isn’t the first study of its kind to come to the same conclusion.

A previous study from Imperial College London found that, “Theobromine, a derivative found in cocoa, is nearly a third more effective in stopping persistent coughs when compared with codeine, currently considered the best cough medicine."
