Taoiseach Micheál Martin has confirmed that the Cabinet Sub-Committee will meet tomorrow to discuss NPHET's recommendation for Ireland to move to level 5 of Covid-19 restrictions.
Earlier, it
emerged that NPHET has advised that all counties should be moved to level five for a duration of six weeks, less than a fortnight after level 3 restrictions were placed on the whole country. Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan moved to level 4 earlier this week while a
nationwide ban on house visits came into effect from this morning.
It is being reported that senior Government officials met with Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan this morning to discuss the situation and An Taoiseash, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly will meet tomorrow to decide whether to take NPHET's recommendations.
This afternoon, Martin said that "the situation is very serious and we will need further action in relation to this. The government will give this very detailed consideration examining all aspects."
