Aldi already employs 4,500 people in Ireland.
As you may have noticed, during the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns when many businesses were forced to let go of some or all of their staff, Aldi actually began a recruitment drive.
The German supermarket chain added 500 new staff to their numbers in Ireland since the coronavirus pandemic began, and today they have announced they are looking to add an additional 1,050 new positions throughout 2021.
Of those jobs, 700 will be permanent roles in the new stores they are planning on opening in Ireland this year.
Niall O'Connor, Group Managing Director at Aldi Ireland, had the following to say about the new jobs:
"Additional investment for 2021 in new stores, store extensions and Project Fresh store upgrades confirms our continued commitment to the Irish economy," with six new Aldi shops will open later this year in Dunshaughlin, Douglas, Newbridge, Bayside in Dublin, Cahersiveen, and Killarney.
There are also a further six store locations in the planning process: Castlecomer, Roches Street in Limerick, Ballybrit, Ballyhaunis, Kanturk, and Shannon.
Additionally, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar, had this to say (as per
RTE) about the new jobs:
"I'm really glad to see Aldi continuing to offer both the living wage and sick pay to all employees, two benefits I would like to see more employers offering. I would like to thank them for their continued commitment to providing opportunities for Irish food and drink producers."
