The Zika Virus Has Now Reached Northern Ireland

New reports have confirmed that the Zika virus has now reached Northern Ireland.

Several people are said to have contracted the disease in the last year, including one person in the last week. 

According to BBC News, the latest discovery means there are currently six people in the North being treated for the disease.

Those infected are believed to have travelled outside Northern Ireland before acquiring the virus.

Zika is now considered a sexually transmitted disease, according to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is currently classified as a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation.

There have been 117 confirmed cases in the UK since last year.
