Boohoo Caught Selling ‘Fake Fur’ Jumper Containing Real Fur

Boohoo has been caught out for selling real fur in their clothing while advertising it as fake after a Sky News investigation prompted a number of complaints.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) later launched their own investigation after the Humane Society International lodged a formal complaint which has now been upheld.

A ‘Faux Fur Pom Pom Jumper' that was available for sale last September has been found to have real fur in it that most likely came from a rabbit.

Another retailer, an accessories site called Zacharia, was also in big trouble for misleading customers while selling real fur advertised as fake and both have now received warnings.

Boohoo responded that the supplier they were using at the time was "aware of Boohoo's commitment against the sale of real fur and had signed a supplier acknowledgement form committing to not supplying products containing real fur".

An ASA spokesman said, “Boohoo’s records showed that a sample of fur from the product in question had passed internal tests.

“However, given that we had seen evidence that the product obtained by Humane Society International contained real animal fur, we concluded that the ad was misleading.

“The ad must not appear again in the form complained about.”
