Black Friday shoppers are being warned over a convincing looking scam doing the rounds on WhatsApp at the moment.
It’s offering people up to 99% off products on Amazon and tells users to “Shop Now” via a link in a WhatsApp message.
It also says the sale is part of their 'Big Billion Day' which isn’t a real slogan used by the brand.
If you follow the link in the text (which you definitely shouldn't do), you’ll be brought to a fake Amazon website featuring plenty of cheap deals, where your personal details are very likely to be stolen.
An Amazon spokesman told The Mirror, "The best way to ensure that you do not respond to a false or phishing text message is to always go directly to your account on Amazon to review or make any changes to your orders or your account.
"We would ask any customer who believes that they have received a false or phishing text message to alert us via our stop-spoofing@amazon.com e-mail address."
Gardaí have also issued a warning over online scams in the run-up to Black Friday and Christmas.
They advise that you should never click on deals via social media and instead go directly to the website yourself, so you can avoid ending up on a fake site.
As well as that, you should always be wary of sites asking to store your payment details unless you know it’s a trusted website.
