We got a taste of some decent weather over the past few days but you shouldn't be discouraged by the blanket of cloud over the country today.
Apparently the fine weather is going to make a comeback next week with some "real heat" on the way. That's according to Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather who has posted to say that "The longer range outlook is looking excellent on latest ECWMF ensembles with high pressure building next week along with some real heat. Little too far out yet but this looks good."

We'll take his "Oh my!" exclamation as good news as well. Met Éireann is already forecasting highs of 19 degrees over the Bank Holiday weekend before "an overall improvement next week as the Azores High moves closer."
According to
Weather Online, "Movement of the Azores High system poleward in summer has a major impact upon the climate of Europe. In summer the pressure centre shifts towards 35°N across the Iberian peninsula and a ridge might build across France, northern Germany and even the south-eastern UK. This is when the typical mid- to late summer heatwaves arrive, with very hot temperatures and persistent dry weather."
