Three Popular Irish Food Businesses Ordered To Close In August Over Food Safety Concerns

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) states as of September 3rd that three Irish businesses were served with closure orders for breaches of food safety legislation for the month of August .

The businesses were located in Louth, Meath and Wexford and they are:

O'Brien's (Closed activity: food business except the public bar area serving beverages in disposable containers. All water incorporated into drinks or ice to be brought in from a potable supply) Johnstown Village, Navan, Meath.

Lotus (Closed activity: supply of food to any other food business) 70 South Main Street, Wexford

Riverview Takeaway (Closed activity:handling of raw kebab meat and raw chicken) Unit B, Molloys Building Merchants Quay, Drogheda, Louth

The 13 food businesses that were closed in July were located in Dublin (6), Cork (4), Meath, Clare and Tipperary.

These reports are issued under the FSAI Act, Official Control of Foodstuffs (S.I. No.117 of 2010) and prosecutions under food legislation

There is four types of orders:

• Closure Orders - remain on the website for 3 months from the date the order was lifted
• Improvement Orders - remain on the website for 3 months from the date the order was lifted
• Prohibition Orders - remain on the website for 1 month from the date the order was lifted
• Prosecutions - remain on the website for 3 months from the date the order was lifted
