Apparently Not Even The An Post Staff Use The New Eir Codes

After the Irish State rolled out the Eircodes postal system - costing €38 million - it has been revealed that local An Post delivery staff do not use them.

The Irish Times reports that the issues was first raised by a Fianna Fáil spokesman who said it was “simply inconceivable that An Post, despite promoting the use of Eircodes, do not make use of them when delivering post”.

An Post responded by saying it still strongly advises its customers to use Eircode when posting their mail, but that "Eircodes were never intended or designed for use at local delivery level”.

The postal service instead uses “the regular postal address of a property at the final stage of delivery."

An Post stated that their delivery men and women could not be expected to remember the post code of each home, and that machines sort the post by Eircode in the initial sorting stages.
