A minute's applause will take place this evening to honour the volunteers who helped in the search for the two Galway paddleboarders who went missing on Wednesday night.
Thankfully, Ellen Glynn (17) and Sara Feeney (23) were found alive after 15 hours on the water and their
story of survival through a night of wind and rain is really quite inspiring. The girls were eventually found at around noon yesterday by local fisherman Patrick Oliver and his son Morgan and they will be honoured tonight, along with the hundreds of volunteers who helped with the search.
League of Ireland First Division club Galway United have issued a statement which says: 'A minutes applause will take place ahead of United’s league match against Longford Town this evening at Eamonn Deacy Park to thank all of the service staff and volunteers who took part in the search and rescue of Ellen Glynn and Sara Feeney.'

Ellen's father Johnny is heavily involved with Galway United and was appointed Head of Youth Development at the club in 2017. Today's statement added that 'Ellen is the daughter of Galway United legend Johnny Glynn, who scored the goal that clinched the FAI Cup for the club in 1991 against Shamrock Rovers. Glynn is also the club's current head of youth development.'
