A GoFundMe Page Has Been Set Up To Repatriate The Body Of Japanese Murder Victim Yosuke Sasaki

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the repatriation of Japanese national Yosuke Sasaki who was murdered on his way to work in Dundalk earlier this week.

The appeal began with the aim of raising €2,000 for the victim's family but donations have now reached nearly €9,000 at the time of writing.

Yesterday, 18-year-old Mohamed Morei was charged with the murder of Mr. Sasaki who had been working at National Pen, a company which provides personalised marketing merchandise, in the town. The 24-year-old moved to Dundalk in August 2017.

Former Dundalk town councillor Ollie Morgan has now set up the GoFundMe page with the aim of helping the family of Mr. Sasaki repatriate his body to Japan.

An introductory paragraph reads:

'The people of Dundalk have been left shocked and horrified at the horrible and tragic events that happened in Dundalk yesterday morning. This is a chance to show our solidarity with the family. Please donate whatever you can afford.'

Contributors have been offering messages of support on the page. One wrote 'Deepest sympathies on the tragic loss of your son in a senseless act' while another added 'So so sad & sorry for the loss of your beautiful son, our hearts are broken. May you gain strength from the love we send you xxxx'

Meanwhile, Dundalk Municipal District chief, councillor John McGahon has called for a candlelit vigil to be held in memory of Mr. Sasaki. Speaking last night, Mr. McGahon said “I would love to see some type of way that Dundalk town could show some form of solidarity with this man and his family on the other side of the world. And maybe that could be something like a candlelit vigil or something along those lines."
