A Case Of Bird Flu Has Been Found In Tipperary

A case of bird flu was discovered in Tipperary on January 31, it was confirmed yesterday. 

A wild white-tailed sea eagle was found dead, and tests revealed it had been suffering from avian influenza subtype H5N6. 

The finding shows an increased risk of avian flu being spread to Irish poultry, and strict measures are needed to combat this. 

Anyone who owns poultry should make sure they feed them under cover and put fencing around any outdoor areas they use, to keep them away from wild birds. 

The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre has said that the risk to public health is very low.
