The Government is considering allowing people to travel 10km from their homes under new restrictions that are set to be announced tonight.
After receiving advice from NPHET to move Ireland to risk level 5 of Covid-19 restrictions, it appears that the Government will opt for 'a version' of level 4 restrictions instead. This would mean that all non-essential retail outlets (including hairdressers) would close but a click and collect service is being considered for non-essential stores. Meanwhile, pubs and restaurants will only be allowed to offer takeaway services.
According to
RTE, a 10km travel limit is also 'likely', as opposed to the 2km and 5km restrictions we saw earlier this year. 'Social bubbles' are also being considered to assist the elderly and vulnerable.
The new restrictions will reportedly last for four weeks and the Government hopes that businesses will be back up and running before Christmas. It is hoped that Ireland will be able to return to level 3 at the end of November and 'level 2 in the days before December 25.'
