We know how annoying it is when you're online and you're reading something or watching a video and the next thing an advertisement pops up and it gets in the way of your entertainment.
It's been on television forever and since hitting Facebook, it's slowly been coming into the online world too.
And next to get it will be messaging services it seems.
Yeah, the coveted Whatsapp is soon going to start advertising and it's everything we don't want the service to do.
How about focusing on a better calling service that doesn't make you hear everything with a five second delay?
Anyway, Brian Acton, who co-founded Whatsapp but has since left after it was taken over by Facebook, told Forbes that good old Zuckerberg wants to put ads in the Status Feature.
Great.
"Targeted advertising is what makes me unhappy. It was like, okay, well, you want to do these things I don’t want to do. It’s better if I get out of your way. And I did," he told the publication.
Whatsapp have since said that they will start the advertisement roll out in 2019 and added "thanks to the team's relentless focus on building valuable features, WhatsApp is now an important part of over a billion people's lives, and we're excited about what the future holds."
Then there'll be ads just about everywhere? Fantastic.
UPDATED: 1/11/18:
Chris Daniels, a VP at Whatsapp has confirmed to Outlook India that adverts will be Whatsapp's future when it comes to making money.
He told the publication that:
"We are going to be putting ads in ‘Status. That is going to be primary monetisation mode for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp."
