The last supermoon of 2020 will be appearing in Irish skies tonight and tomorrow and you don't have to stay up until all hours to catch it.
The supermoon will be visible on Thursday night from 9.15pm before it appears again on Friday from 10.50pm. It's expected to brighten up the skies and judging by
these pics of last month's pink supermoon, it's not to be missed.
What is a super moon though?
Super moons happen when a new or full moon coincides with perigee, which is the term used to describe the moon's closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit. As the moon doesn't orbit the earth in a perfect circle, a few times a year the perigee lines up with the most dramatic phases of the moon - resulting in a super moon that appears up to 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter than usual.
Tonight's supermoon is the third of three over Ireland in 2020. The previous ones appeared on March 9 and April 8, as mentioned above. It's certainly something you'll want to check out so don't forget to set your reminder for the times mentioned above.
