This Property Company Has Come Up With A Very Unique Way To Tackle The Housing Crisis

We all know how bad the housing crisis has gotten in Ireland, with even those on good incomes struggling to find an affordable place to lay their head.

So spare a thought for the poor students, who are facing into three or four years of study without any prospect of a decent wage.

Of course, the problem boils down to supply and demand - with far less suitable accommodation than needed for the thousands of students starting back to college in September.

Now, a Galway-based property agency has come up with novel way to create more options in the market - by bringing in two luxury barges.

Winters Property Management revealed today that it is currently examining the feasibility of "large-scale, high-end, barge accommodation", with two barges from Bibby Maritime said to be "perfectly suitable for student requirements".  

These barges have previously been used for corporate accommodation around the world and feature en-suite bedrooms, restaurants, recreation rooms, in addition to providing both reception and laundry facilities. 

The Bibby Stockholm has 222 en-suite bedrooms, while the Bibby Bergen has 180 en-suite bedrooms with wifi and a courtyard. All bedrooms have windows with natural light, desks and wardrobes, with private bathrooms and shower access.

The company has also teamed with NUI Galway to appeal for homeowners to make their spare rooms available to students, offering up to €14,000 tax free to those who take part.
