We're not ashamed to admit that our phones are probably in our hand for a solid 90% of the day.

But after hearing that the light from our phones could be affecting our skin, we're probably going to think twice about spending the majority of the day editing Instagram posts and trying on different Snapchat filters.

We protect our skin from the harmful rays in the sun using SPF everyday but we've never really thought about how light from our phones could be harming our skin... Until now.

Dermatologist and founder of Murad Skincare, Dr Murad told Refinery 29 that the blue light (also known as HEV light) emitted from our phones can have a negative affect on our skin and speed up the ageing process - yikes!

Dr Murad said: "Excessive blue light accelerates the oxidation process, causing hyperpigmentation, its oxidative effects elicit inflammation and damage the skin barrier making it more prone to signs of ageing, increased uneven skin tone, dullness, pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles."

After hearing how bad this light is for our skin, we kinda want to throw out our phone and laptop, but realistically that isn't going to happen.

Instead, making sure you have a daily moisturiser that includes an SPF could be the key to preventing damage.
