The Startling Reason Why You Should Never Hold In A Sneeze

Whether you're driving on a busy road, in the middle of an important meeting, or halfway through a quiet Sunday mass, holding in a sneeze is something that most of us are guilty of doing at some point.

However, the shocking story of one man's reaction to holding in a sneeze will make you never want to do it again.

According to Women's Health, a 34-year-old man from the U.K. ruptured his throat as he pinched his nose and blocked his mouth, preventing his sneeze from happening naturally.

The man lost his voice when he was taken to the emergency room where doctors examined him.

During the examination, they heard a crackling noise in his neck, which meant that air bubbles had seeped into his chest.

Doctors later realised that the man had torn his pharynx when he tried to hold in the sneeze.

He was taken to hospital and given antibiotics and a feeding tube until the tear in his pharynx healed, which it eventually did (thank God).

So it's safe to say the next time we have to sneeze at an inappropriate time, we'll be letting it happen naturally, because making a loud noise for one second is definitely less hassle than going to hospital with a tear in your throat.
