The children of Ireland have been invited to team up with Michael D Higgins to create a poem as part of the Poetry Day Ireland festival.
Poetry Day Ireland takes place on April 30 and as part of it, Poetry Ireland has asked children to contribute to a national poemathon with the help of President Michael D Higgins. Fifth and sixth class students are asked to submit a line of poetry, with contributions combined together to form a longer poem on the theme of time.
To get things started, the President himself has written the first line which goes '‘There will be time without measure’. He has also written the very last line of the poem, which will be revealed when the poem is fully assembled and unveiled on April 30.

Once the work is completed, it will be unveiled online and placed in a time capsule in the garden of Poetry Ireland HQ on Parnell Square East in Dublin. So whatever the poetic students of Ireland come up with will be enjoyed by people in generations to come. Talk about being part of history.
Poetry Ireland says that 'It will very much capture this particular moment in Ireland and, indeed, in the world due to the Covid 19 restrictions. And it will also be a very exciting moment for children all over the island of Ireland to take part in this creative initiative, which ties in with Poetry Day Ireland’s theme this year, ‘There will be time’.'
