Stargazers will be given a treat over the next two nights as Earth passes through debris from Halley's Comet, resulting in the Eta Aquarids meteor shower.
The Eta Aquarids meteor shower occurs every year in late April or early May over the northern hemisphere and Astronomy Ireland has advised that tonight and tomorrow night will be the best time to see it - weather permitting.
On Tuesday and Wednesday night, stargazers will be able to see between 10 and 20 shooting stars per hour and they will be at their most visible after midnight.
The Earth passes through Halley's orbit twice a year, leading to the Eta Aquarids in the early summer and the Orionids in October. Keep up to date with this week's events by following Astronomy Ireland
