The Irish-English ‘Queer Dictionary’ Is Something That Every Irish Speaker Will Need In The Future

Even the most fluent of Irish speakers will now need to brush up on their Irish after it was announced that a new queer dictionary for the Irish language has been launched. 

'An Foclóir Aiteach' (The Queer Dictionary) is brand new and translates phrases from English to Irish such as: transgender, bigender and genderqueer. 

In total it has over 100 words and terms translated to help Irish speakers be as up-to-date with the phrases as possible. 

It was set up by the Union of Students in Ireland in Ireland, BelonG To Youth Services, and the Transgender Equality Network of Ireland.

The Minister for Gaeilge, Joe McHugh, said that the launch of this book was essential in order to keep the language alive in Ireland. 

It also received the support of Minister for Gaeilge, Joe McHugh, who said this kind of initiative keeps 'the language alive and close to the heart.'
