The new route is set to operate six days a week.
DFDS have announced a new ferry route, set to operate six days a week, connecting Rosslare to Dunkirk in Northern France.
The route is due to begin operations in early January, and will take 24 hours for the ferry to complete its journey.
The new route will be added to several passages from Rosslare to mainland Europe, including Cherbourg and Roscoff in France, and Bilboa in Spain.
The new port brings those who arrive in Dunkirk within a 20-minute drive to the Belgian border, as well as a three-hour drive to Paris.
Speaking to RTE, the Rosslare port general manager Glenn Carr said:
"This is a hugely exciting development, not only for us in Rosslare Europort, but for Ireland as a whole, Irish industry, and the haulage sector. We have engaged with Irish hauliers and their representatives, to understand their needs, particularly in the context of Brexit, and worked with shipping operators and ports in Europe to identify strong offerings for the sector.
"The new service, which will provide a crucial freight route, will also be very attractive for inbound and outbound tourism when Covid travel restrictions are eased"
