We've been feeling the results of Brexit in many ways over the past months, but now it's even coming for our good Christmas gravy.
Marks & Spencer has withdrawn the Christmas Food To Order service from its shops in the Republic of Ireland, according to the
Irish Times.
A spokesperson for M&S confirmed the decision was due to “
the complex checks and delays resulting from Brexit.”
As a result of supply issues stemming from Brexit, there's expected to be a limited supply of Turkeys available in the UK this year. However, M&S expects to be able to meet demand in Ireland. A spokesperson for the supermarket
told the Irish Times: “
Customers will be able to buy fresh turkeys from mid-December. The vast majority of turkeys will be supplied from Irish farmers and there are no planned reductions in the range and volume.”
However, according to the Irish Times
other food retailers already have plans in place to manage crowds during the festive season, and will be catering for those who don't wish to enter busy stores this Christmas.
SuperValu will have delivery and click and collect Christmas slots available from November in stores throughout the country, and expect to have the same amount of turkeys available as in recent years.
Tesco shoppers who subscribe to the Delivery Saver option and those registered for free delivery for customers over 65 years of age, will also be able to book delivery or collection slots from mid-November.
Aldi will also have a Christmas click and collect option available from Friday, November 19th, at a small selection of their stores across Ireland.
